The Regulatory Capture of EMR Standards Bodies

How ICNIRP, ARPANSA, WHO EMF Project, and FCC have been compromised by industry influence, maintaining outdated thermal-only guidelines.

Official EMR guidelines are built on a simple premise: If it doesn't heat you, it can't hurt you. This assumption is scientifically obsolete and historically shaped by political and industrial pressures.

ICNIRP: A Private Club

The International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) is a self-appointed, private NGO whose guidelines are adopted by over 50 countries. Critics describe it as a "private club" where members select their own successors with no external oversight.

ICNIRP has deep ties to telecommunications and military sectors, steadfastly dismissing thousands of peer-reviewed studies on non-thermal biological effects.

The WHO EMF Project

The WHO's International EMF Project, established in 1996, has been heavily influenced by ICNIRP from its inception. Its first head, Michael Repacholi, was also ICNIRP's founder and chairman, and reportedly a paid consultant for industry.

ARPANSA's ICNIRP Dependence

Australia's ARPANSA essentially copy-pastes ICNIRP guidelines with minor adjustments. It does not conduct independent biological research and has no precautionary framework.

The FCC's Revolving Door

The U.S. FCC's RF limits were set in 1996—before smartphones, Wi-Fi, or 5G. In 2021, a federal court ruled the FCC had failed to explain why it wasn't updating guidelines despite evidence of harm.

The "Procrustean Approach"

Don Maisch's PhD thesis describes how EMR science is forced to fit a pre-chosen "bed"—the thermal paradigm. Evidence of non-thermal effects is systematically dismissed.

Funding Bias

Henry Lai's analyses show that 70-80% of independent studies find biological effects, while 70-80% of industry-funded studies find none. This is not scientific disagreement—it's funding-driven distortion.
