hotel health accreditation rating system

The EMRStop organisation will soon embark upon a World-First H3 (Hotel Health and Harmony) program in order to accredit hotels worldwide with ratings according to central and critical health features that are all-too-often neglected aspects of consideration in the patron's stay.

hotel health accreditation rating systemThese aspects include, but are not limited to:

  • The assessment of individual rooms for electromagnetic radiation (EMR) "electrosmog" of both ultra low frequency ("dirty electricity") as well as pulsed microwave exposure. This is a critical health factor for the hotel and certainly an essential element of the bility to offer recuperative sleep. Given that most of the patron's stay time in a hotel is likely to be during sleeping hours, and is certainly a central reason for purchase of accommodation, this measurement is a most important element of hotel assessment that has hitherto been virtually completely neglected.
  • The assessment of the food and beverages presented at the hotel for true health and purity, and care & correct methodology of handling in preparation.
  • The assessment of the toiletries and other personal products supplied for naturalness and non-toxicity.
  • Meshing strongly with the first point of this list, the evaluation of bedding materials and their function upon the assistance towards (or distraction from) a good night's sleep is also critical.
  • The facilities of the hotel (such as gymnasiums, health spa and massage facilities, non-chlorinated or brominated pools, spas, water features, etc.) that lend towards a healthful rather than harmful experience.
  • The utilisation of non-toxic materials in the regular maintenance operations of the hotel (such as for purposes of disinfection).
  • The construction and other features of the hotel and their contribution to health. Health problems can originate or be exacerbated by exposure to factors reducing air quality, such as moisture intrusion and mould, dirty air systems, inadequate ventilation, or leaking gas appliances or outlets. Dirty water pooling or storage and building products and furnishings that emit toxic chemicals can also cause similar issues.
  • The environmental context of the hotels surrounds can be conducive or detractive to a patron's state of physical and psychological well-being. For example, a coal burning power station spewing out mercury that is upwind of a hotel in prevalent winds is a negative; a nearby forest and waterfall eco-tourist facility is a positive element.

A multidisciplinary approach utilising fields such as Building Biology, Toxicology and Psychology will be implemented for development of the standard. Hotel assessors will be qualified and/or trained in the relevant fields, leading to an extension of the educational parameters of current courses, and concurrent demand driven facilitation of change in educational institutions to meet the need.

These sorts of features will be considered throughout a hotel's experience in a program which robustly rates hotels on the basis of their success or failure to achieve the abovementioned crucial health parameters, presented in the simple format of a star-rating system exclusive to H3.

In this age of sophisticated customers who place an onus upon the importance of health and harmony in their travel experiences, a positive rating in the H3 rating scheme can make a significant difference to customer perceptions and hence to a whole host of bottom-line critical occurrences for hotels and regional tourism more generally.

hotel health accreditation rating systemConsultants of EMRStop will be available for the training of hotel staff and management in the essentials, in order to bring hotels up to and maintain high standards in H3 rating.

Internationally, this is a first of its kind rating system and finally brings to those superior hotels which wish to (or have already taken steps to) strive for excellence in health for their customers, a way of showcasing their high level of service to their customer base.
